Simu Liu engaged in a tit-for-tat battle with Bowen Yang over who could be the first Asian star to nab more accomplishments on this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live.

Liu, 32, joked earlier in the broadcast that he was Marvel’s ‘first openly Chinese superhero’ and also ‘the first Chinese host on SNL… to be the fourth Chinese host on SNL.’

In a pre-taped sketch set in Bowen’s Dressing room, the Shang-Chi star tried to one-up the comedian for firsts.

Must be first! Simu Liu engaged in a tit-for-tat battle with Bowen Yang over who could be the first Asian star to nab more accomplishments on this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live

Bowen admitted he was nervous about doing the show.

‘I mean, this has never happened before, right? Asian male host, Asian male cast member.’

Simu joked that they were like the meme in which two identical Spider-Men point fingers at each other.

‘Except you have abs and I have ibs,’ Bowen said, before clarifying that he meant ‘IBS.’

‘Thanks. I just think it’s weird that people keep track of this stuff, though,’ he said nonchalantly, before revealing that both men were obsessed with being first.

Simu whipped out a gold medal around his neck that read, ‘First Asian man to move from Canada to America named Simu.’

But Bowen kept up, as he was also Canadian, so he had the same medal, except that it had his name.

Simu opened his monologue by noting that he was Chinese-Canadian. He mentioned that Canadians celebrate their Thanksgiving holiday in October, while Americans celebrate it in late November to mark ‘‘the start of Black Friday week on Amazon Prime.’

The newly minted film star looked into the past at a famous 2014 tweet he sent requesting Marvel make a film with an Asian superhero, which ended up being him.

Liu had actually been playing a superhero for years, as he dressed up as Spider-Man and children’s birthday parties before he got his big break as an actor on Kim’s Convenience.

He recalled a child named Trevor who used to kick him in the leg and berate him for not being the real Spider-Man.

‘Trevor, if you’re watching, I just want to say, you were right, I’m not Spider-Man — I’m Shang-Chi, b***h!’ he shouted to cap off his monologue.

His first sketch of the night was a fake show that recapped the highs and mostly lows of a local karaoke bar.

Kenan Thompson played the bar owner while Chloe Fineman played the clearly intoxicated host.

One of their ‘highlights’ of the week was ‘Guy who was doing great until the high notes came in,’ with Bowen Yang playing a man who couldn’t keep up as the melody of A-ha’s Take On Me kept climbing.

Ego Nwodim played a woman who had been overserved singing a nonsensical song, while Pete Davidson sang an overly emotional and totally out of tune version of Mad World.

Melissa Villaseñor and James Austin Johnson played a couple singing in the voices of Marge and Homer Simpson.

Simu made his appearance at the end as a ‘Finance bro trying to get laid’ who sang the Backstreet Boys’ song I Want It That Way.

‘I gotta say, it makes me regret sleeping with him those seven times,’ Chloe’s character admitted.

Next up was a Thanksgiving-themed Target commercial advertising deals on essentials for the holiday.

Meat-free turkey was discounted for ‘your niece’s annoying new boyfriend,’ before the clip cut to Simu at the dinner table saying it’s ‘horrifying’ what is done to turkeys.

Other discounted items were motion-sensing lights for the relative who always goes out to the driveway to smoke, and noise-canceling earbuds to drown out the racist grandfather, played by James.

The ad ended with a discount for dog food, ‘since someone in your family is bringing their dog, even though you asked them not to.’

Simu was back for the next absurd sketch as a general at the Pentagon who was showing off the US’ newest superweapon to a cabinet secretary (Cecily Strong) and a senator (James Austin Johnson).

But the secret weapon turned out to be a human with a dog’s head on their shoulders, which was played with a real dog and a person blindly moving their hands around while sitting behind a desk.

‘Imagine a soldier with undying loyalty, built-in night vision, super-sonic hearing and the ability to track an enemy scent with 15,000 times the accuracy of a normal human nose,’ Simu said, referring to the ‘dog-head man.’

‘Good girl, dog-head man,’ he said, clarifying that it was a female dog’s head on a male human’s body.

‘I don’t know about you, man, but if I saw this —,’ he said, before he had to pause to hold back his laughter as the dark started to wag its tongue while waving a knife around, ‘— coming at me on the battlefield, I’d drop my weapon and run.’

Simu let slip that he convinced his father to donate his body and his dog to science to create the beast as Cecily seemed ready to reject it.

But then he said China was amassing its own dog-head man army, so she suddenly changed her tune.

‘We’re gonna need to find a lot of animal shelters that will look the other way,’ he said as the skit ended.

Pete Davidson, who didn’t appear to address his new romance with Kim Kardashian in any of his sketches, took over the next pre-taped sketch, a black-and-white parody of Marc Cohn’s song Walking In Memphis, which became ‘Walking In Staten.’

He transferred the setting to Staten Island and joked about the scuzzier charms of the borough, including its wild turkeys.

After he mentioned seeing Method Man get a hole-in-one at a miniature gold course, the Wu-Tang rapper took over a guest verse.

‘Babies here are born with a golden chain,’ Pete rapped at the end of the song, before they discovered a dead body floating in the water.

‘I think my cake is so bad that I opened a portal to hell,’ he said as he tried to cut the turkey cake, only for it to sprout eyes and a mouth to scream.

When he tried to cut the pilgrim cake it started spewing lavender fluid and screaming.

Heidi turned out to have made a perfect cake, but the judges didn’t care, and Simu’s evil pilgrim mess vomited all over her.

Kyle ended the sketch with his cake to represent Thanksgivings of the future, which looked suspiciously like male genitals covered in white icing.
